Show in Web Browser

EditRocket provides integration with web browsers installed on the user's system using the Show in Web Browser option. The show in web browser option is available via the file menu as an icon on the toolbar.

For Mac and Windows systems, the Show in Browser option gives the user the ability to choose a browser to launch. For Linux and Unix systems, EditRocket makes a system call to attempt to launch a browser. For Mac and Windows, supported browsers are different depending on the operating system. Examples of browsers that EditRocket can launch are Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer, Opera, and Chrome, and the system's default browser if it is different from one of the previous browsers.

The show in web browser option works differently depending on the type of file being edited. Listed below are the various file types and how show in web browser works for each of these types.

Default Functionality

For file types not listed below, the show in web browser option simply takes the file contents and displays them in the system's default web browser. For example, for HTML files, if the HTML file exists on the file system, EditRocket will launch the default browser and have it display the HTML file. If the currently active editor tab is not tied to a file, EditRocket will take the contents from the editor, create a temporary file, and display the temporary file in the default web browser.
